Residential school were created by government for many years ago, there are many legacies leaf in recent days. As a result of residential school, whether residential schools were good aspect of Canadian history is needed to be talked. Some says residential schools were bad for Canadian history while other say they were good. However, it is obvious that residential schools were good when we consider the whole Canada history.
There are many politicians who think the Residential schools were the mistakes that the government had made. They believe that Residential Schools are the sources of abuse and cultural genocide. Throughout the years, Some Residential Schools’ teachers were taking advantages of the policy that the government and the church asked them to lead the First Nation people about the culture. They used this chance to criticize students by verbal insult, called them animals, told their background and culture was evil and they were made to believe that they were worthless or even in some cases, some teacher used it to satisfy themselves with the use of physical and sexual abuse. Those actions gave the residential students mentally and physically wounds. Many students couldn’t suffer such a stupid way treating, so they tried to escape from their schools. However, it was useless caused someone would catch them no matter how hard they tried to escape. When they were caught, they would be in serve punishment. It was a vicious circle! When it reached the point of maximum of human beings could suffer, they would be insane among those pitiful people. After the experience of residential school, those guys were drinking as the vent of anger as result. So could we make a conclusion that residential schools were mistakes that government had made? What was the residential schools purpose? Residential school is the “government” in this case, we called the main group, try to assimilate the small group member in order to let them better understand what their lifestyle and thoughts that they can govern the country much better together. However, the administrator couldn’t fulfill this purpose. It was the people mistake that they chose another way to treat the residential schools’ students. It wasn’t the mistake of residential schools. What we considered was we ignored the humanity when we created the law of forcing the First Nation people to study in boarding school. This act increased the intensity of unfair condition, so that was why the people would treat aboriginal people in this way.
Residential school made a good contribution to unite the Canada. It helped to unite the culture, language and the customs. With the help of residential school, many natives can work with the mainstream society very well for now. They can be much easier than their grandparents to communicate with other people, go to school, go to work or something else. In another way, residential school helped improve the economy of Canada by uniting everyone Canadian resident together to face the global economy forces.
Everything has both sides. It mainly depends on the way we treat. Residential schools in Canada history was a pitiful thing. However, I am not gonna to say the operation of residential school was a evil. In a way, residential schools were good idea that government tried to unite the country much better!
